SBTRKT: Wonder Where We Land

Confidence oozes from every pore on this second album from Aaron Jerome. SBTRKT dons a mask to disguise his identity, but there's no need for any such subterfuge when it comes to his musical sparks. Wonder Where We Land is a magnificent, wide-ranging affair, roaming from bass odysseys to more spectral, house-led wig-outs. The all-star guestlist, including Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, Jessie Ware, A$AP Ferg, Chairlift's Caroline Polachek, Raury, and longtime foil Sampha, have much to do with the album's trajectory, though Jerome's role as ringmaster is key. More reasons to cheer: Koenig kicking out the jams on New Dorp New York; the beautiful sheen on Problem Solved accentuated by Ware's vocal; the evocative reach of Sampha on Gon Stay; and Raury's sad, melancholic bite on Higher. sbtrkt.com
