Promise and the Monster - Feed the Fire: menace lies just beneath the melodic hum

Previous releases from Swedish singer-songwriter Billie Lindahl who trades as Promise and The Monster showcased an intriguing talent whose material contained striking qualities amidst the usual folky pop fringes and fades.

On her third album Lindahl’s slow-burning, seductive, noir-esque sounds are quite intriguing, thanks to some fascinating instrumental calls and noticeable sharpness when it comes to arrangements.

The menace that lies just beneath the melodic hum of Machines and the eerie spacey atmospherics on Fine Horseman are all evidence of Lindahl's suss in these departments.

There are moments when her songs are not as finely honed as they perhaps should be, but the overall feel on Feed the Fire is of an artist slowly coming into her own.
