Pop Corner: Is Ed – or his tattoos – on Ellie’s mind? and Nicki Minaj’s mom on dating

Ashton whips 5SOS into shape and Carly Rae Jepsen is a goody two shoes

Track of the week: On My Mind by Ellie Goulding

Depending on who you ask, this is a response track to Ed Sheeran's Don't, which, depending on who you ask, was about Ellie Goulding. Confused yet? Basically Ellie's wondering about a former flame, and she doesn't let him off easy ("you wanted my heart but I just liked your tattoos").

It's a slick and minimal number, a far step away from breathier tracks like Your Song, but earlier Goulding fans might find hints of deep cuts like Figure 8.

Hero of the week is Ashton 5SOS. He told Billboard he's the organiser of the group. "[In the early days] I felt like I had a whip," he explained.

“I’d be like, ‘You have to come to rehearsals because we sound like sh*t!’. ‘Where the f*** is Calum?’ ‘Michael, get off the computer!’ ‘Luke, what do you mean your mom wants to pick you up now?!’.” Sounds like our kinda guy.

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj told GQ that her mum keeps an eye on her love life. So when she started dating rapper Meek Mill, her mum initially battened down the hatches.

“My mother only knows Meek from what she sees in public, in the media. She’s met him now, but she just wants to make sure he’s a nice guy. She’s overprotective of her daughter. Another thing people don’t realise is I’ve only had three boyfriends in my whole life. I’ve never dated around. I don’t have a whole lot of experience in that department.”

Zero of the week is playing pranks in school, according to Carly Rae Jepsen. She told the BBC, "I was like the principal's daughter in high school. I was naughty, naughtier, in college but in high school I was a goody two shoes. The moment of my life when pranks began was when I was touring Canada with boybands and some of those pranks, I can't even tell you what went down."
