Pop corner: Flume, Union J and Zayn talk about love

Wide-ranging love themes, sex songs and attempts to leave

Track of the week: Never Be Like You by Flume

We’re so into this sparkly twinkly track by Aussie producer Flume. There’s a sharp, wounded female vocal (courtesy of Canadian singer Kai) and a wobbly bass throughout the chorus.

The track is about wanting to be someone, but hating who you are when you’re around them. “What I would do to take away/ This fear of being loved, allegiance to the pain,” she sings. Truly excellent.

Hero of the week is George of Union J. In a YouTube video, he explained what was happening with his love life.

“I’ve been reading a lot of speculation online as to whether I’m straight or gay or bi, and it’s all these labels, and it’s a little bit old fashioned, and this is why I’m not going to label it myself, because it’s not something I feel I can label.”

He went on, “I’ve had girlfriends that I’ve loved and have been amazing periods of my life, but I’ve also had boyfriends, and I just want you to know that whether I decide to be with a girl next or be with a guy next, it’s because I love them, and it shouldn’t be a big deal.”

Zayn's been clearing the post-Pillowtalk air. He told radio station Z100, ""It is about sex, there is obviously sex in a relationship.

“It’s not the whole incentive of the song though, the actual intent of the song is even though you have great times in a relationship, you have really bad times as well but that’s what makes it worth while because you learn things and you go through experiences that bring you closer together.” Consider us updated.

Zero of the week is Roc Nation, according to Rita Ora. Rita had been suing the label and wanted to leave, but Roc Nation are now counter suing.

Their law yer stated “(Roc Nation) tirelessly promoted [Rita’s] career, investing millions of dollars in marketing, recording and other costs, which was instrumental in guiding Ms Ora to her current level of success and fame. Golly.
