Albums recorded in unusual settings tend to be imbued with a special feeling. Brigid Power Ryce’s I Told You The Truth EP was recorded in St Nicholas’s Church in Galway, and the setting gives her haunting vocals a spiritual resonance.

There’s gentle folk to be found in the music of Dublin band Let’s Set Sail , below, with their Marbles EP giving a lovely taster of what they’re up to.

James Kelly still holds onto some of his black metal mettle (he was in Altar of Plagues), and his solo work as WIFE sees him ploughing trippy, intriguing and at times experimental electronic furrows. tri_angle_records/

More electronica can be found with Teishi-1 ; the instrumental sounds on this new EP were inspired by “80-90 BPM hip-hop and electronic music”. Nice and specific.

Aoife Barry's Newfound Sounds

Slow Place Like Home’s evolution has seen him emerge with 1980s-influenced heavier electronic textures on new release Romola , like an Irish Twin Shadow. The album’s out on June 3rd.

Elastic Sleep step away from the shoegaze and into dreamy indie rock at times during their Leave You EP (out on April 28th), showing that they are making some of the best sounds in Ireland right now. elasticsleepband

The Holy Sparks fill the void as you’re awaiting the next Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds release – dark, brooding, and sounding like a Cormac McCarthy epic in song form.

Dublin’s Half of Me release their 99 EPon May 22nd. When they stray away from the more classic indie rock sounds, you can hear something special.

Keeping it old school rock are Glimmermen , whose new single, There Was A Boy , is out now. Solid sounds from a Dublin band and available here:
