A band unabashedly in thrall to all things 1980s, Little Xs for Eyes make no bones about their influences.

As with their 2011 debut S.A.D., several songs from their second album sound like they've been gleaned directly from a John Hughes film (Seeping Hearts), while the Afro-pop sway of Phantom Wings borrows from Paul Simon's Graceland.

The difference with this Dublin sextet is that they do it so well.

This is polished indie-pop, heavy on harmonies and swoonsome production, with gentle wafts of synth occasionally drifting in for good measure.

If there's a fault, it's that singer Bennie Reilly's sweet vocals sound a little too slight at times; Davey Moor's turn on the zippy Loser Leaves Town lends a welcome balance.

Overall, it’s impossible to dislike.
