Artist: Lage Lund
Genre: Jazz
Label: Criss Cross

The trio is a setting where a guitarist can really show his mettle, and Norwegian Lage Lund has plenty to call upon.

Berklee educated, a Thelonious Monk prize winner and now a fixture on the New York scene, Lund’s fluid, harmonically rich playing follows in the rarefied footsteps of Jim Hall, Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel, and he shows his respect for that lineage in his choice of material and side-men.

A mix of originals, songbook chestnuts and jazz standards are stretched in all directions by the boisterous, hard-swinging trio, which includes Metheny regular Bill Stewart on drums and Rosenwinkel favourite Ben Street on bass.

Lund is not exactly re-inventing the wheel, but as a player of depth and melodic flair, he is already up there with the best.
