John McLaughlin & the 4th Dimension: The Boston Record

Yorkshire-born guitarist John McLaughlin is the quintessential musician's musician, an eternal student of his instrument, with arguably the greatest technical command of any contemporary six stringer. His recordings with Miles Davis, the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti have elevated him to the status of a minor god among guitarists, so it's more than appropriate that he should record this live album at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Talk about a home crowd. With British keyboardist Gary Husband, west African bassist Etienne Mbappe and Indian drummer Ranjit Barot, the 4th Dimension is a group as muscle-bound as the leader, and with a roomful of young musicians egging them on, they don't exactly hold back.
