Gavin James: A little bit too Mumford

Two things that Gavin James has learned in the past 24 hours: (1) it’s difficult to hold the attention of a festival crowd when it’s just you and a guitar, and (2) a foot drum works wonders for galvanising a limp, chatty audience.

The young Dubliner draws a paltry crowd to his set, and his inexperienced stagecraft, presence and lack of profile (although his debut album is due in October) renders his tender acoustic balladry quite ordinary.

When the aforementioned foot drum comes into play, it all gets a bit too Mumford for our liking. James can certainly sing, and Say Hello temporarily brings the crowd to life - but the question is, do we really need another James Vincent McMorrow?
