After the release of her 10th album last year, Eleanor McEvoy decided to tie up some loose ends. The result is a compilation of rarities, collaborations and covers from throughout her career, some rerecorded and remixed and all remastered. McEvoy's eclectic taste engenders covers by acts as diverse as Edith Piaf ( Milord ), Chuck Berry ( Memphis Tennessee ) and Scottish indie-rockers The Fratellis ( Whistle for the Choir ), all of them furnished with an easygoing warmth. Her originals are affable as well: Don't Blame the Tune is a slinky soul club number, while the soft bumble of Please Heart , You're Killing Me (co-written with Rodney Crowell) is a standout. While some of these songs have a tendency to blend into the background a bit too easily, it's a successfully charming miscellany. eleanormcevoy.com
