Fidlar, Wichita ***
Fidlar’s freak scene is a familiar one – straight out of Culver City, with a desire to neck cheap beer, skate their asses off and party until they drop. Fidlar’s sloppy, messy, buzzy, intoxicating surf- punk blitz is another kind of southern California dreaming.
Going on such shorthand, it’s no surprise that their debut album sees them exhibiting similar musical vim and gusto to such tumultuous old-school heroes as The Germs, The Misfits and even the venerable Black Flag.
Yet for all the dumb fun they cranking out throughout, Fidlar do stretch the template a little, and this is when things get really interesting. Cheap Beer’s magnificent happy hour glee may be the keeper for many, but it’s tracks such as Max Can’t Surf, No Waves and Paycheck that will really get you humming. facebook.com/fidlarLA
