Culture Night dawns again

Argh! It’s Culture Night (or it will be in an hour or so)

Argh! It’s Culture Night (or it will be in an hour or so). There are, of course, plenty of film events taking place throughout the land. The Irish Film Institute continues its celebrations of 20 years in Temple Bar with a screening of (their words) “oirish” classic Far and Away. You can see Tom and Nicole torture vowels from 8pm in Meeting House Square. In the same venue at 7pm, Arts and Disability Ireland is presenting a screening of Jessica Casey: The Film, a stop-motion picture derived from a collection of poetry by people with intellectual disabilities. Filmbase, the long-running resource centre, will be hosting a series of workshops, talks and short-film screenings.

Yes, yes, We know. Culture Night doesn’t just happen in Dublin. Cork is offering a particularly interesting series of events. Our friends at the Corona Cork Film Festival have created a pop-up cinema featuring Irish and international short films in “mystery locations” around the city. Electronica wizards Horsemen Pass By will perform original scores from recut cult films at Cork City Hall. There is a focus on horror and more. Cripes! You’ll need three heads to take it all in.
