Green Grass Blue Grass Paulman Music****

If an adrenaline rush is what you’re after, you’ll find it in on this exuberant collection. Paul Brock and Enda Scahill first sallied forth to the wellspring that is Old Time Americana and Appalachian music with their highly memorable and high spirited 2006 recording, Humdinger. Green Grass Blue Grasssees the band (including fiddler Manus McGuire and pianist Denis Carey) journey deeper into the backwoods of a shared musical history. Bluegrass maestro Ricky Skaggs lends his magnificently freewheeling mandolin while Aubrey Haynie’s fiddle widens the lens even further, especially on the loose-limbed Fish on a Snagset, which includes Bill Monroe’s high lonesome Wheel Hoss. This collection has all the air of a reunion of long-lost country cousins, revelling in their shared accents as well as their disparate tune collections. Virtuosity in full flight.
