Leinster remained on course to retain the Golfsure Men's Inter provincial Championship at Enniscrone, but the holders had to fight off a stern challenge from Munster yesterday before grabbing a twopoint advantage as Ulster beat Connacht by four points.

The morning foursomes didn't seem to be going Leinster's way when they lost the top match and only shared the second. However, a 3 and 2 win from Dermot Snow and Gavin McNeill over Tim Rice and John Kavanagh steadied the ship. Noel Fox and Stephen Browne then beat Alan Thomas and Mark Murphy on the 17th to give Leinster a morning advantage of one point.

Noel Fox is one of only four players - the three others are in the Ulster team - with a 100 per cent record in the competition so far, and he blazed to a massive 7 and 5 win over Karl Bornemann after Gary Cullen had beaten Eddie Power on the 18th. Fox had an eagle and six birdies in his round.

UCD student Mark Campbell carved out a 6 and 5 win over Mark Murphy.
