Loreto still in title hunt

They'll probably erect a statue in honour of Mary Barnwell down Beaufort way after her heroics on Saturday afternoon. Her club, Loreto, were three seconds away from bowing out of the Leinster Senior A title race when up she popped to score the winner against Old Alexandra, who had equalised less than a minute earlier.

The 2-1 win lifts Loreto to within a point of Alexandra and two behind leaders Hermes with just one fixture remaining. As it stands now Loreto must beat Trinity next Saturday and hope for a draw between Hermes and Alexandra on the same day if they are to win the league. If, however, their appeal to Ireland against the Leinster Branch's decision to dock them three points is successful then all they would need is a victory over Trinity to clinch the title.

Meanwhile at the bottom of the table, Muckross kept their hopes of avoiding relegation alive when they beat Pembroke Wanderers 2-1.
