A 21-metre-long wooden hippopotamus was seen floating along the River Thames in London yesterday.

'HippopoThames' is the creation of renowned Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who is best known for his 'Rubber Duck' installation which saw a giant yellow duck sculpture bobbing along bodies of water around the world.

Hofman explained that the playful urban installation was inspired by one of his daughter's books.

The Dutch artist's most recent piece, which is his first UK commission according to a press release from event organisers, was towed upriver from its build site to its end position on London's South Bank.

'HippopoThames' will be on display throughout September.
