Dublin conference to discuss evolving travel retail business

Ministers in Luxembourg for EU-US trade meeting

The evolving travel retail business will be discussed at a conference in Dublin this week, which is expected to attract more than 150 delegates representing the world’s leading airline and travel companies.

The Travel Retail Experience conference, which is being organised by travel distribution platform Datalex, will examine how revenues and margins can be increased through optimised retail offerings. Keynote speakers include Mothercare chief executive Simon Calver, former C&C and Tesco Ireland chief executive Maurice Pratt, who will share lessons from their industries that can be applied to travel retailing.

More than 50 travel retailers will be represented at the conference, with delegates including representatives from Delta, United Airlines, Air China, Aer Lingus and Expedia.

Trade deal
Meanwhile, on Friday, Minister for Enterprise Richard Bruton will chair a meeting of EU trade ministers in Luxembourg. The meeting will discuss the EU-US transatlantic trade and investment partnership, EU-China trade and investment relations, the EU-Canada trade agreement and labour conditions in Bangladesh.

An EU-US deal could boost GDP in both economies by nearly 0.5 per cent, amounting to an extra €119 billion for the EU and hundreds of thousands of new jobs being created in Europe. It would also bolster the EU’s long-term competitiveness.
