Tech tools: Nest Cam home security for outdoors

Nest has already made moves into the indoor security camera/baby monitor/pet monitor market with the Nest Cam, the product it launched after buying DropCam. Now it has its eyes on the great outdoors, with the imaginatively titled Nest Cam Outdoor.

It’s motion-sensitive and always on, pushing alerts to your phone if it senses movement.

Video streams live to your smartphone or tablet, and you can use the app to talk to your visitors, welcome or no. A NestAware subscription – which has an additional monthly fee – will help distinguish between a person prowling around your back garden and a cat, although you may not want those hanging around either.

Nest says you can install it yourself, which is an added bonus.
