Microsoft's Hololens to bring holograms to life

Forthcoming personal holographic display is controlled by voice and gestures

Microsoft has gone all future tech with the Hololens, a personal holographic display that you control with voice and gestures. It's a headset that puts holograms into your surroundings – not quite the Star Trek Holodeck but probably as close as we're going to get for now. The Hololens can, for example, creating a game environment around you, or be used with Skype. The lens is transparent, so you can keep an eye on your surroundings. Don't get too excited and start raiding your bank account yet. It's based on Windows 10, which doesn't arrive until later this year, so that should give you an indication that Hololens won't be around in the coming weeks.
