Get your (rocket) skates on

But the rechargeable footwear makes for an expensive toy

€1,400

Remember back at CES in January there was talk about the Rocket Skates? They’re now available to pre-order. No longer will you have to get somewhere under your own steam; simply strap a pair of these to your feet, lean forward on your toes, and the skates will do the rest. Powered by two brushless DC motors, the skates can go for up to 10 miles (16km) before needing a recharge, which takes about 90 minutes to fully complete, and reach speeds of up to 12 miles per hour (19km/h). You wear your own shoes underneath, and you can walk in the skates if the need arises. There’s even an app that will track your overall distance, mileage and the battery life of the skates. Getting hold of a pair will set you back a cool €1,400, which makes them an expensive toy.
