Games association offers ‘scholarship’ to Irish developers

Fund aims to pay for Irish firms to attend major developer conference next year

Irish games association Imirt is offering a tuition scholarships to games companies looking to attend the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco next year.

More than €46,000 will be made available to 25 members of the association, covering the cost of an all-access pass to the conference and two days of tutorials and summits before the event kicks off.

The scholarship is being offered in partnership with the GDC and UBM Tech. Held each spring, GDC attracts around 30,000 attendees and is considered an important event for developers to attend, opening up opportunities to meet international game developers, partners, publishers and hardware manufacturers.

"GDC is the single-most important event of the year for the game industry," said Brenda Romero, chairperson of Imirt. "By providing these scholarships, we not only increase the Irish presence at the show, but increase the knowledge base within the country as well."
