Dublin to host inaugural MediaCon technology and TV conference

Conference intended to promote Ireland as a location to create programming

A new technology and television conference has been announced for Dublin that will play host to some of the top names in the industry.

MediaCon will take place in the Mansion House on September 8th, and according to organisers, it will provide an opportunity to promote Ireland as a location to create programming across a variety of platforms, including digital.

"We have a lot of talent and resources in this country and it's no surprise to see Irish talent going abroad to make great careers for themselves or top dramas coming here to film. We even create top shows here as we have seen with Love/Hate, but we can do more as the opportunities as well as the audience are truly global now," said MediaCon co-founder Steve McCormack, who is also chief executive and founder of multiplatform TV company Straywave Media.

The event will also take into account digital platforms such as YouTube, Netflix and Hulu, which McCormack described as "staples in TV production and publishing".

“The rules of the game have changed dramatically and the TV landscape looks completely different for producers and content creators. The event will bring together high-level decision-makers and creatives from traditional broadcasters and networks along with the newer tech publishing platforms,” he said.

Among the speakers confirmed are Newswhip founder Paul Quigley, NRK Norway's head of programmes Rune Møklebust and Fullscreen's vice-president of business development, Damon Berger.
