Consultant joins State-owned transport company as it implements major cost-cutting plan

Management consultant Ultan Courtney has been appointed chairman designate of Dublin Bus for a three-year period by Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe following approval by Cabinet.

Mr Courtney's appointment remains subject to ratification by the Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications, which he is scheduled to attend later this month.

He joins the State-owned transport company as it attempts to implement a major cost-containment plan, aimed at generating savings of around €11 million.

Mr Courtney is currently a managing director at Courtney HR and has previously held senior HR positions in Superquinn and C&C Group.

The Government has also given approval for Mr Courtney’s appointment as a director of CIÉ.

“I was happy to propose Mr Courtney as a director to the board of CIÉ and as chairman of Dublin Bus. Mr Courtney brings with him a set of skills that I know will be valued in both positions, with an academic background that is strong on economics, employment law and corporate legal governance,” Mr Donohoe said.
