Datalex opens Beijing headquarters during trade mission

China’s aviation market is among the fastest growing aviation markets in the world

A key event during Richard Bruton's visit was the opening of Datalex plc's new Beijing office. In 2011, China's flagship carrier Air China chose the Datalex Travel Distribution Platform (TDP) for all its domestic and international shopping and reservations online and in call centres, and the group has been working to grow its business in the world's largest aviation market.

"A permanent presence in China is an important step in our market strategy as the world's leading provider of airline ecommerce and merchandising solutions," said Datalex chief executive Aidan Brogan.

“Chinese airlines continue to lead by every industry growth metric including double-digit growth in passenger demand each year. China is a very exciting market to be part of and an important step for Datalex in support of our existing customers such as Air China and development of new business,” he said.

“I am particularly proud of the calibre and seniority of our Chinese team which bring a wealth of aviation and ecommerce expertise both from China and across the globe,” Mr Brogan added.

Air China, the world's largest carrier by market value, uses the TDP application portfolio to tailor and optimise its air and ancillary product offerings to customers. Founded in 1985, Datalex is headquartered in Dublin and maintains offices across Europe and the US, and it is listed on the Irish Stock Exchange.

China's aviation market is among the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says China has one of the strongest performing domestic markets in the world, with domestic air travel having expanded in the country by 11.7 per cent in 2013.

The IATA estimates passenger volumes in China will have increased by 193 million by 2016 over the preceding five years. This is equivalent to more than 23 per cent of the estimated global increase in passenger numbers over the same period.
