As the year draws to a close it’s a good time to reflect on internet memes; internet cat memes to be specific. The latest (and best, in my opinion) is the adorable Grumpy Cat. Tard (short for Tartar Sauce) became famous when her owners posted a picture of her on Reddit looking especially surly and, as is the case with many cat pictures on the “interweb”, it went viral. Grumpy Cat has already made it on to T-shirts and has even appeared on TV in the US (Fox News counts, right?).
Last Christmas Gangnam Style
The infectious Gangnam Style by South Korean popstar Psy is easily the most popular song of 2012, emerging from relative obscurity in early summer to become the most viewed video on YouTube (925 million views and counting). If you can’t get enough of Psy’s techno gangsta dance moves then check out this mashup that weaves Wham’s schmaltzy Last Christmas melodies with the Gangnam backbeat. Oppa Christmas Gangnam style!
Obesity Worldwide Infographic
Drooling over the thoughts of ham, turkey, gravy, mince pies, pudding and gallons of Baileys over the Christmas holidays? Here’s an infographic that will scare the fat-pants off you. Roughly 1.5 billion adults worldwide can be classified as overweight and 65 per cent of the world’s population live in countries where they are more likely to die from causes related to obesity than malnutrition. A sobering infographic to stick on the fridge for the January diet or, even better, prevent the need for the diet in the first place!
