Samsung claims Apple damages should be 35 cent per phone

The patent battle between Samsung and Apple is continuing in the US, with Samsung claiming its rival's patent-infringement claims of almost $2.2 billion are 57 times higher than what the Galaxy maker should pay if a jury finds it infringed smartphone technology.

That makes the damages Apple is seeking about $40 per phone. Instead, the South Korean firm says, it should be as little as 35 cents a phone, and it called a Yale University business school professor to make its case to the federal jury in California.

Samsung is also accusing Apple of infringing two of its patents.

The second US trial between the world’s top two smartphone makers follows legal battles on four continents to dominate a market valued at $338.2 billion last year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
