Both Irish technology companies are leading the way in innovative energy use

Irish technology companies OxyMem and Nualight have been shortlisted for the UK

Energy Awards, which aim to highlight the achievements of companies that cut emissions and lead the way in innovative energy use.

OxyMem has been shortlisted in the competition's Energy Efficient Technology of the Year category, while Nualight's Titan LED car-park lighting solution is shortlisted in the Energy Efficient Product of the Year (Lighting) category. "Being nominated by our peers in the UK suggests that we are truly recognised as an innovative solution for the wastewater treatment market both at home and abroad," said Oxymem managing director Wayne Byrne.

Founded by Prof Eoin Casey and Dr Eoin Syron as a spinoff from work at University College Dublin’s school of chemical and bioprocess engineering, OxyMem has developed membrane technology to address the global need for a more energy-efficient aeration solution for waste-water treatment.

Innovation award

Earlier this year, the Athlone-based company won The Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation of the Year award.

Nualight chief executive Shaun Gray said being shortlisted for the UK Energy Awards was welcome recognition for Titan's innovative design and the company's drive to create a new dedicated car-park lighting portfolio. "Titan has been designed for underground and multi-storey 24-hour-parking locations for operators who value uniformity, brightness and futureproofing of their lighting investments.

“Leveraging the latest developments in LED technology and the in-house manufactured Lumotech LED drivers, the product is reliable, vandalproof and waterproof.”

Founded in 2005, Nualight is a LED lighting technology specialist and counts UK retailers Tesco, Sainsbury’s, the Co-Operative Group and Morrisons among its clients.

The Cork-based company recently secured €3 million in venture capital funding from investors including Superquinn founder Feargal Quinn.
