Northern Ireland-headquartered Tayto group is to create 58 extra jobs at its plant in Tandragee, Co Armagh, as part of a £6 million investment programme.

The family-owned business is the third largest crisp and snack manufacturer in the UK.

It currently employs 390 people at its Tandragee Castle site, and employs a further 900 at UK plants

in Scunthorpe, Corby, Wolverhampton and Bolton.

Paul Allen, Tayto’s chief executive, said the latest expansion and job-creation programme at Tandragee was part of a company strategy to increase the capacity of its facilities in Northern Ireland to meet increased demand both nationally and internationally.

“While we are now very much a national company our home is very definitely in Co Armagh,” Mr Allen said.

Tayto Northern Ireland was originally established in 1955 by businessman Thomas Hutchinson.
