Carraig Donn announces 100 new jobs

Carraig Donn is to create 100 new jobs over the next two years through the continued expansion of its retail chain and knitwear manufacturing plant in Mayo.

The company, which employs more than 450 people across the country, opened a new flagship store in Dublin today.

Unveiling the 6,000 sq foot store at the Jervis Shopping Centre, Taoiseach Enda Kenny welcomed the jobs announcement saying Carraig Donn was great example of how an indigenous business can succeed and thrive in the highly competitive retail market.

The expansion follows on from Carraig Donn’s expansion two years ago with the creation of 150 jobs.

"The group will continue its planned expansion programme in 2014 and 2015 where a further 100 new jobs will be created. We continue to focus on improving standards and realigning the cost base of the company," Carraig Donn managing director Pat Hughes said.

Dublin City Business Improvement District (BID) welcomed the opening of the new Carraig Donn store in the Jervis Shopping Centre.

"The news that Carraig Donn is coming to Mary St is a huge vote of confidence for the north side of Dublin town," Dublin City BID chief executive Richard Guiney said.

Throughout 2013 footfall in the city centre has been on the rise while vacancy rates have fallen, he added.

Established in 1965, and headquartered in Westport, Carraig Donn has 32 stores nationwide. The group’s turnover in 2012 was in excess of €30 million.
