Business journalists launch annual quiz in aid of Simon Community

DAA is main sponsor of event which is marking its 15th year

What is the highest possible break in snooker? (No, it's not 147.) What is, when calculated via its share price, the most valuable company on the Iseq? (No, it's not CRH. ) What did SS officers have tattooed in their armpits? (Not a swastika.)

These are the some of the broad range of questions that have popped up in recent years at the annual Corporate Challenge, organised by the Business Journalists’ Association of Ireland. It’s that time of year again, folks.

The charity event is held each year in aid of the Dublin Simon Community and routinely raises over €50,000. More than €400,000 has been raised to date to fight the scourge of homelessness.

It’s essentially a posh, well-lubricated and raucous table quiz, where businesses each pay €1,000 for a table. Each company is helped/hindered by a random journalist, who is supposed to pitch in with their vast reserves of insights on the current affairs rounds. Stop laughing.

Proud sponsors

Dublin Airport Authority  and BT are sponsoring this year's event, with additional support from Larry Goodman's meat company ABP and the Reputations Agency. The event will take place on Thursday, May 21st, at the Radisson Hotel in central Dublin, and entries are open via dodonovan@independent.ie and catherine@thereputationsagency.ie

Bryan Dobson will, as always, be on hand to MC the event, assisted by Commercial Court chief Peter Kelly, who is the scariest adjudicator you will ever come across. TV3 will be aiming to defend its crown. Think your company is capable of snaffling it from them? Come and have a go if you think you're smart enough.
