Avolon in €1bn Boeing Dreamliner deal

Irish aircraft lessor, Avolon, is planning to buy six Dreamliners from US giant Boeing in a deal worth more than €1 billion.

Avalon, run by industry veteran, Dómhnal Slattery, announced yesterday that it has agreed to buy six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from the Seattle-based aircraft designer and manufacturer.

Current list prices value the six wide-body craft at $1.5 billion (€1.1 billion) and brings the total value of the Irish company’s recent orders from Boeing to more than $3 billion.

Farnborough airshow

In the announcement, made at the Farnborough International Airshow, which began yesterday, Avolon reconfirmed its intention to purchase five 737 max 9 aircraft from Boeing.

The Irish company is now committed to buying 20 737 max craft from the company, worth a total of $2.1 billion at current list prices.

Avolon said that its owned, managed and committed fleet now stands at 207 craft.

Elsewhere, Limerick-based Waypoint Leasing said that at the end of its first year in business, its assets, consisting of more than 40 helicopters, now exceed $500 million.Dublin-based turboprop leasing specialist, Elix Aviation said it has acquired 25 craft from rival Nordic Aviation Capital in a deal worth over $100 million.
