C&C strikes deal to continue expansion into Asia-Pacific

Mahou India is the first international subsidiary of Mahou San Miguel

Drinks group C&C Group and Spanish-headquartered Mahou San Miguel have struck an agreement to brew several Tennent's products under licence in India.

In a statement, the company said it was continuing to “ramp up” its international expansion in Asia-Pacific with the announcement of its third strategic partnership in the recent months.

“C&C is proud to confirm the signing of a new partnership with Mahou India, 100 per cent subsidiary of Spanish brewing major Mahou San Miguel, for several Tennent’s products in India,” it said.

“India is a rapidly growing beer market with strong fundamentals for accelerated growth in the short term.”

Initially Tennent’s and Mahou India will launch Tennent’s Whisky Oak Aged Beer and Tennent’s IPA, described as “the first authentic Indian Pale Ale to be brewed in India”.

Mahou India is the first international subsidiary of Mahou San Miguel, a Spanish-owned family company and market leader in Spain with a production share of 35.5 per cent, Is based in Gurgaon (Haryana) and has a production centre located in Bhiwadi (Rajhastan).

Managing director of C&C's International Division, Joris Brams, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Mahou India, strengthening our position in the Indian market.

“The deal strengthens Tennent’s presence in India, and we hope it allows for participation in the spectacular growth and premiumisation of the Indian Beer Market.”

Mahou India chief executive Erik D’Auchamp said the alliance was “one step further in our long-term vocation in the region and an exciting opportunity to continue exploring with C&C Group new ways to satisfy the needs of the Indian market”.
