    Lennon lands Celtic job

    Pól Ó Muirí

So, Neil Lennon is confirmed as Glasgow Celtic’s new manger with a one-year contract. Hardly a ringing endorsement but hopefully it will allow him enough time to improve the club’s fortunes. He has certainly laid out his manifesto and is quoted as saying he wants the players to go to “war” every time they take to the pitch and bring back “the thunder”. Them’s fighting words, alright. Anyway, I would say that morale among the Celtic fans I know is pretty low. Indeed, the guy in the chippy (who is mostly certainly not Elvis) has little positive to say about the club at the moment and has stopped watching them play – and he is covered in Celtic tattoos. You know things are bad when the guy with tats has lost interest. A bit of thunder is probably just what he needs.

No-one doubts Neil Lennon’s commitment to Celtic but the first test will be in the transfer market. Last season’s successful late run was largely a result of Robbie Keane’s goals and now he’s gone there’s a major gap there. We also need a reliable, settled pair of central defenders, left back is a long-standing problem and there’s the question of where Scott Brown fits into the side. He’s got a lot on his plate
