Oh thank goodness. Some sort of shutting up can take place now that we have a tranche of cast members for that Star Wars Episode VII thing. As everybody already knew, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are back. But few had predicted that our own Domhnall Gleeson would be among the number. As we understand it, the actor will be bricked up in J J Abrams’s basement when not shooting the film. The script is so secret, you see. Also along for the ride we have Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, John Boyega and — glory of glories! –the almighty Max Von Sydow. Ingmar Bergman would be proud. “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII,” J J Abrams announced. “It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

We also got this rather wonderful photograph of a table read. That seems to be Domhnall with his back to us. I originally assumed that my old pal Max Von Sydow was sitting next to him. But sleuths have since informed my that it is Anthony Daniels, the man who was (and is) C-3PO. As you can see, R2-D2 is there in person to contribute beeps and warbles. Anyway, good luck to our Domhnall. He’s a great actor and a decent bloke.
