As wireless listeners will be aware, your current correspondent is a regular contributor to Gavin Burke’s excellent Cinerama show on Phantom 105.2. Long before I was lured into participating, I was a big fan of the extravaganza’s persuasive chemistry and relaxed atmosphere. Contributors such as Nicola Timmins, Daniel Anderson, Dave O’Mahony and our own Tara Brady all know what they are talking about and are all happy to engage energetically with one another’s opinions. It is one of the few shows that allows lengthy conversation between a number of critics without requiring anybody to act as the puzzled, film-ignorant civilian.

Anyway, tonight, as Mr Burke is on a rare holiday, the show will be hosted by Donald Clarke and Tara Brady of the Irish Times. Chaos will almost certainly reign. The films will, however, get reviewed and, if all goes well, we may even get to hand out a few prizes. We picked a very interesting week with such diverse pictures as Samsara, Berberian Sound Studio and A Few Best Men Up for Consideration. The show kicks off at 7.00 pm.
