Irish Times Theatre Awards Part Deux (et Trois, et Quatre, etc)

    Fiona McCann

I am too tired to post having spent all of yesterday writing this and this, oh and this. That’s it for the Theatre Awards for another year at least, which usually serves as a reminder (to me at least) not to miss all the good stuff this year. Recommendations for plays to watch out for in 2009 will be gratefully received.

Impossible to see everything – but great that it’s because there’s so much good stuff out there!

    • John Smyth says:

First of all, thanks for the big write-up on the Awards.

I wrote a small piece of my own theatre experiences in 2008 on my blog as a follow-up to your post, and I could find very little debate on the winners in the Irish ‘blogosphere’.

I didn’t get to see all the nominees (the only downside of living in Galway] but I was disapointed with “The New Electric Ballroom” – I felt that Walsh was rethreading old ground, both with the coneit of the play and also the theme. I also thought that Don Wycherly was very unlucky not to get Best Supporting Actor – his was the performnce of 2008 for me in “The Seafarer”.

I’m looking forward already to a theatre-fest in the 2009 Galway Arts Festival already!,
