Even if you had all the money in the world. . .

could you really justify spending 40 grand on just one night in one of these hotel rooms?

I reckon you would have to be completely and totally mad to justify spending this amount of money on any room. It would be worthwhile if it came with a free BMW 3 series but other than that no justification what so ever.

Judging by the decor in some of the rooms, I think i’d want to be paid to stay…
Abrnormal prices usually refer to scarcity, and to achieve them you need a combination of (a) the scarcity and (b) the funds to pay for the premium exacted by that scarcity.
All of which leaves me scratching my head a bit… a hotel suite is not ’scarce’, nor can your use of it (on a nightly basis) be ‘exclusive (the other premium busting concept) – because the same suite will be let out again for each of the other 364 days.
So you can only pay to ‘experience’ something sold as ‘exclusvie’, but that exclusivity will be shared with 364 more people in any given year.
There’s obviously plenty people around (assuming those hotels are attracting that premium) with little enough sense, but hats off to a business which manages to extract their money from them anyway.
