Society, life and culture on the edge

Mary Nally is the driving force behind Drop Everything, a contemporary arts and culture festival that takes place on Inis Oírr this weekend, and every two years. She has also organised these parties.

What are you reading?
Emails.

Last film you saw and your verdict?
The Grand Budapest Hotel. Into it.

Last gig/concert you went to and your verdict?
The Gloaming. A1.

Last stage production you saw and your verdict?
I’m not sure I can remember, but the next one I’m going to see is Ballyturk at the Galway Arts Festival and I cannot wait!

Last gallery / museum / exhibition you visited and your verdict?
Dorothy Cross at the RHA. I loved it.

You have a golden ticket to Easons, what magazine is first on your list?
Well if I have a golden ticket to Easons first on my list is not a magazine. It’s one of those black uni-ball ink pens. Easons has a pretty limited selection of magazines in Galway town but I’d probably pickup Dazed, Aesthetica or Vanity Fair. Now if I had one for some bodega in the East Village of Manhattan that’d be a different story.

What are your most clicked bookmarks?
I don’t know how to use bookmarks unless they’re in actual books.

Do you have a favourite podcast or radio programme?
This minute it’s Soundings Culture Podcast.

Give us a tip for 2014…
Verrazano in the Queen Anne Stakes.

When you fall into a YouTube hole what’s the general subject matter of the videos you’re watching?
Music. Or if I’m very hungover things like ‘someone gets owned by’ for pure lolz.

What song should we listen to right now?
Lend Me Your Love by Molly Nilsson

Which boxset/TV series do you have on the go at the moment?
I don’t. I’ve tried, but I never last. What happens in the end of Breaking Bad? Just tell me like.

Which app do you use the most?
Instagram/Twitter.

Do you play video games or mobile platform games, and if so, what’s your favourite at the moment?
Nope. But my favourite is still one of the Sonic the Hedgehog’s circa sometime in the 90’s.

What is your favourite club night of all time?
Ah here. Impossible question. Probably the ones I wasn’t alive for. But I’m gonna give the holla to 110th Street’s Boogaloo cos they were the best of craic in the west when I was too young to be out raving.

What was the last country you visited and what were you doing there?
U!S!A! I was catching up with pals, art, and a decent margarita in New York City.

If you could transport one international cultural outlet to your home town, what would it be and why?
The Hayward Gallery because it’s got the best programming ever.

And finally, if you check out one artist or musician this week make it…
Cyprien Gaillard.
