The Tony Nominations are out

And it’s good news for the Irish.

The Tony Award Nominees have just been published.

For a touch of the Irish: John Patrick Shanley’s ‘Outside Mullingar’ has been nominated for Best Play. Martin McDonagh’s play¬†’Cripple of Inishmaan’ was eligible, and is now nominated for, Best Revival of a Play.

Chris O’Dowd is nominated for Best Performance By an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for ‘Of Mice and Men’.

But perhaps the most delightful news is the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play¬†nomination for Sarah Greene for her universally lauded performance in ‘Cripple’. Greene has been on a steady rise for some time now, from productions of ‘Little Gem’ to ‘Phaedra’, and winning over thousands in thisispopbaby’s ‘Alice In Funderland’. Her performance as Helen in ‘Cripple’ was loudly applauded on its London run, and the New York theatre press fell over themselves to heap praise on her for the Broadway turn.

The Tony Awards take place on June 8th, hosted by Hugh Jackman.
