I noticed a post on Buzzfeed about Jem and the Holograms dolls being re-issued in time for Christmas. Brilliant! I thought. Jem was always way cooler than Barbie, a kickass alternative to the latter’s dead-staring doll with an impossible physique. But as I began to scroll through the pictures of the new collection I realised that they’ve dropped a few pounds since the 80s. Oh well.
