Katie Taylor’s fight for Olympic gold today against Sofya Ochigava from Russia, is not just the culmination of a tournament, or four years training, or even a career. It is that of a lifetime. The reason women’s boxing is in the Olympics really is fulfilling her destiny today. Here’s what the world is saying about her:

Sports Illustrated thinks Taylor might be the most popular athlete at the Olympics.

Scenes that the Guardian reported yesterday will probably be repeated at what’s not being called #Boxegen.

BoxingScene.com says Taylor has become boxing’s “poster girl”.

Katie Taylor’s sister says all the sacrifices are worth it now.

Here’s what happened the last time Taylor fought Ochigava.

The National Post has some colour on the fans.

The Journal reports Taylor wants to inspire a younger generation of female boxers.

And here’s the pre-fight report from Keith Duggan.

As an aside here’s an interview by Kieran Shannon in the Irish Examiner last year which addresses Taylor’s strong Christian faith. Shannon wrote a more recent column about her at the end of July.
