Mick Minogue is an ‘art and crafter’ who makes everything from intricate dolls of James Vincent McMorrow to art based on Street Fighter.
What are you reading?
Nothing but bills and local TD rubbish coming through our door. Does NO JUNK MAIL have another meaning I’m missing? When a TD can make their pamphlets look less like the local Chinese take away menu Ill lend them my ear.
Last film you saw and your verdict?
A screening of Point Break In the Lighthouse Cinema. It was 100% Utah. I used the screening as a study trip for a Point Break inspired art piece I’m making for a Gallery 1988 show In New York this August called Crazy 4 Cult. That movie never stops giving. There should be a national Point Break Day I bet that would bring the sun out.
You have a golden ticket to Easons, what magazine is first on your list?
Any celebrity trash magazine. I would it roll up and set it alight using Heat magazine and then create a lynch mob with any magazine that doesn’t have Jeremy Kyle story titles on their covers.
What are your most clicked bookmarks?
Celebritytrash.com, Heat.com, FHM.com ,Womanway.com, JeremyKyle.com, howtohavetheperfectbeachbod.com and photoshopped&soulless.com all whilst listening to This American Life which I truly love.
When you fall into a YouTube hole what’s the general subject matter of the videos you’re watching?
Embarrassingly I loose hours of my life watching some 10 year old from Texas show me the best way to prime wood or create flawless dove tail joints. I like to wash all that down it a tall glass of 80s electro pop juice. Have you listened to Oran ‘Juice’ Jones ‘Walking In the Rain’. God Damn!
What track should we listen to right now?
Put on any St Vincent track and turn the sound off – then open up a new tab and put on Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’. You can pretend you’re Prince singing to Annie Clark… I know a guy who does that.. not me… Gulp!
Which boxset/TV series do you have on the go at the moment?
None at the moment – I like to keep them for the snug of winter but its always winter in Ireland so I watched all of the Game of Thrones series for the first time recently. Kind of apt for an Irish summer. Whenever it rains now or if I step on an upturned plug I yell out ‘JON SNOW’ instead of bastard.
Last gig/concert you went to and your verdict?
The last gig that made a huge impression on me was that of Margie Lewis. I love that feeling when being at a gig knowing you’re at the early gigs of someone who is going to be huge. Margie Lewis and Katie Kim are playing the Odessa Club Thursday July 26th so you can see and hear what I mean.
Which app do you use the most?
None. I never have credit in my phone. I use the light app or just the light on my phone to prevent up-turned plug and Lego accidents when going to bed late.
And finally, if you check out one artist this month, make it…
Mark Wickham. Mark has created the most amazing boat sculpture called the ‘Lightcraft’ in Bantry. It was made using over 6,000 2 litre milk containers. It has two personalities during the day and night so make sure you see it. Amazing.
Here’s a reimagined version of the game Operation that Minogue did taking inspiration from the film ‘Drive’.
