     Here’s the YouTube of President Obama’s witty speech at the White House Correspondents’  Dinner last Saturday night. For some reason it is dated March 9th, not May 9th. Some of the humour is a little too esoteric for those of us outside the Beltway but it is still worth watching.

    He’s a big name in the US but little-known on this side of the Atlantic. Talk-radio broadcaster and kingpin of the right Rush Limbaugh recently took a passing interest in Irish affairs but got the story entirely wrong, as far I can make out.

    This time 16 years ago I was in Washington to see the inauguration of No 42, Bill Clinton.

    Like now, it was a freezing January in the city. I can remember all the contrasts. Clinton was a huge fan of the saxophone and could play it some.
