  • A Woman Who Made A Difference

    June 27, 2011 @ 10:58 am | by Deaglán de Bréadún

It is impossible to convey to those who weren’t around at the time the sheer excitement of Mrs Gaj’s Restaurant in the Dublin of a previous era. It was a gathering-place for the left and liberals in an Ireland that was still a cold house for adherents of such views.

  • The Day That’s In It

    November 22, 2009 @ 2:32 pm | by Deaglán de Bréadún

Listening to Sunday Miscellany this morning, I was reminded by contributor Kevin McAleer (the comedian, I take it) that this is the anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas on 22 November 1963.

  • Afghan War Looks More and More Futile

    November 6, 2009 @ 11:11 am | by Deaglán de Bréadún

The parallels between Afghanistan and the Vietnam War are growing all the time. • Game for a Laugh with Barack Obama

    May 12, 2009 @ 10:25 am | by Deaglán de Bréadún

Here’s the YouTube of President Obama’s witty speech at the White House Correspondents’  Dinner last Saturday night. For some reason it is dated March 9th, not May 9th. Some of the humour is a little too esoteric for those of us outside the Beltway but it is still worth watching.

  • Rating the Presidents

    February 15, 2009 @ 9:37 pm | by Deaglán de Bréadún

This only just came to my attention although published a few months ago. It is a rating of all the US presidents in terms of best, worst, etc. It was a link on my AOL email homepage today. See what you think by clicking here.

  • Sock and Awe

    December 23, 2008 @ 10:51 am | by Deaglán de Bréadún

It’s difficult not to see the funny side of the incident where the “journalist” threw a shoe at President Bush in Baghdad ( see also previous blog on the subject) and I have to share this piece of badinage with you. It was sent to me unofficially by an apparatchik in our own current regime who was taking a break from, er, saving the country. (more…)
