The word went around Leinster House yesterday that Brian Cowen was about to make a Major Speech. Journos being journos, there was considerable scepticism and curling of lips. They had been down this road before.
Here’s the YouTube of President Obama’s witty speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last Saturday night. For some reason it is dated March 9th, not May 9th. Some of the humour is a little too esoteric for those of us outside the Beltway but it is still worth watching.

Hardboiled journo sheds tear – shock! There really wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Barack Obama took that oath of office yesterday. I have to admit that I teared-up, quite unexpectedly, as I watched it on television. (more…)
It’s difficult not to see the funny side of the incident where the “journalist” threw a shoe at President Bush in Baghdad ( see also previous blog on the subject) and I have to share this piece of badinage with you.
