    The killing of the PSNI officer, Ronan Kerr, is a tragic development. Aged only 25 years, he would have been about 12 when the infamous Omagh bombing took place, causing a massive death toll which affected both sides of the community and included people from republican families in the town of Omagh and its environs.

    Your humble scribe was fortunate to be among the 82,000 attendance at today’s thrilling All-Ireland Hurling Final where Tipperary overcame Kilkenny despite the latter’s hopes of making it five Liam McCarthy titles in a row.

    Getting back into blog mode after a wee holiday, may I advert to a subject far removed from politics? Any time I attend a GAA match at Croke Park I am struck by the number of water-carriers who invade the pitch at every opportunity.

  • Getting a Handle on the Crisis at MacGill

    It would be wrong to finish up a week at the MacGill Summer School in Glenties, Co Donegal without contributing to this blog. One has not yet mastered the art of the brief, almost Twitter-like “soundbite” which other bloggers use from time to time. Our posts on this Blog are more like mini-essays and  hopefully therefore more profound.
