    Season’s Greetings

    Deaglán de Bréadún

Here’s wishing all the readers and contributors of comments to this Blog all the very best for the holiday season. It has been a dramatic year on the poltical scene with more to come in the shape of a general election, a vacancy for President and goodness knows what else. Nollaig shona agust athbhliain faoi mhaise.

On an  historical note, I was intrigued to see a report that a DNA inspection may take place to confirm or discredit the longstanding rumours that John Wilkes Booth, far from getting shot ten days after he assassinated Abraham Lincoln, in fact succeeded in living another 38 years before taking his own life in 1903.

I visited Ford’s Theatre in Washington DC last March. There is a well-organised tour of the premises and you can also visit the boarding-house across the street where Lincoln succumbed to his wounds. I had not realised that Booth went underneath the stage and surfaced in the well of the theatre to carry out his gross deed. For further reading on this, click here.

Now that Abe Lincoln’s legacy no longer applies and 80% of us are now enslaved to financial institutions does it really matter.
