Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips with us or check out all past New Music selections here.

Jain

We confidently expect this French singer to be one of the big breakout acts from SXSW 2017 next week. Jeanne Galice has already shown her new-school pop smarts with tracks like “Makeba” and “Come”, both of which feature on her “Zanaka” album (below), which is a riot of colourful new-school anything-goes sounds and flavours.

JSPH

Joseph Nevels is the dude who is blanking vowels on this occasion, a Cincinnati-based singer with an amazing falsetto and wonderful noir-soul vibe. Nevels was all set to be an American football star until concussion put paid to his budding career so he took up law, particularly entertainment and contract law, started singing and attracting attention for songs like “Lifeless”.

Life Is Better Blonde

Electronic music with oodles of heart, soul and dramatic edges from a Melbourne producer who has been slowly building up his rep over the last while. Latest track “Fires” is a humdinger, a track on nodding terms with James Blake and Frank Ocean but has enough of a richness and suss of its own to captivate the listener.
