New Music – Lo Moon, Sage Nebulous, Marlene Enright
New acts to get to know from Los Angeles, Chicago and Cork
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips with us or check out all past New Music selections here.
There’s a strong bang of Talk Talk and Mark Hollis from “Loveless”, the debut track from Los Angeles trio Lo Moon and that’s no bad thing. Produced by Chris Walla (ex-Death Cab or Cutie), the debut single from Matt Lowell, Samuel Stewart and Crisanta Baker is a blissful thriller, full of emotional beauty and captivating widescreen moodiness. We look forward to hearing more.
Talented Chicago producer Sage Nebulous has been quietly getting his gameface on over the last while. His “Vibrations EP” from earlier this year was a bubbling delight, but newbie “Harambe’s Night Out” is a big winner with its jazzy purr, gorgeous soaring groove and infectious hook. You can take it from thi that Harambe was definitely on for a large one.
Cork singer Marlene Enright will be well known from her time with The Hard Ground, but her solo material shows a much different cut to her sound. The rich rub of strong, melodic radio-friendly pop on “Underbelly” and the forthcoming “Alchemy” bring the beautiful tones of Enright’s voice very much to the fore. She releases her debut album “Placemats and Second Cuts” in 2017 and that’s definitely one to keep an ear out for.
