New Music – The Shacks, Games Violet, Children of Zeus
New duos to cheer from New York, Dublin/Philadelphia and Manchester
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips with us or check out all past New Music selections here.
The Shacks were born in a New York studio when guitarist Max Shrager was looking for a vocalist for a track he was recording for producer Leon Michels and Shannon Wise stepped up for her debut recording session. The combination of Wise’s soft, dreamy wisp of a voice and Shrager’s lovely sepia-tinged guitar lines make like The xx mining doo-wop and other pre-rock’n'roll sounds. The debut album from the youngsters “Haze” will land on Big Crown in 2017 so make do now with their debut EP including the mesmeric “Orchids”.
Irish duo in Philadelphia Alex Games and Emma Violet will be releasing their debut album “Tragic Milkshake” next month. On the basis of their work to date in their home studio, Games Violet are capable of creaing some fascinating pop moments full of strong, haunting, imaginative electronic lines and shadows.
From Mancheser, Children of Zeus’ debut single “Still Standing” is a track to make you turn your head with its lovely blur of soul and fascinating beats. A collaboration between Tyler Daley and Konny Kon who’ve worked on releases with and for Broke’N'English, 50 Cent, Lisa Mafia and many more, COZ bill themselves as an outfit creaing “future classic soul for sophisticated hoodrats”, a tag which fits “Still Standing” like a glove.
